RANCHI: More than 150 persons, including writers, artists, painters and social activists, participated in a silent procession to appeal for peace and unity on Sunday.
Intellectuals from Janwadi Lekhak Sangh in coordination with Pragatisheel Lekhak Sangh, Jan Sanskriti Manch and Manviya Ekta marched without shouting slogans and holding placards from Sainik Market to Albert Ekka Chowk condemning terrorist attacks and appealing for unity.
After the procession, people converged at Albert Ekka Chowk and urged people to remain united in their fight against terrorism.
Rehana Mohd. Ali, who is a writer, said, "The city has changed for the worse. People are indulging in violence, which is not a good sign. They are following the footsteps of the corrupt politicians. This will not only ruin their careers, but also rob the city of its peaceful environment. The youth should understand their duties towards their family and nation."
Renowned social activist Dayamuni Barla also presented her views at the event.
She said, "By following the path of violence, not even a single issue can be solved. Have the youth of the city forgotten the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi? The basic lack of awareness and self-consciousness will lead to the path of destruction. If this situation prevails, people will lose confidence and there will be anarchy all over the place."
The length and breadth of Albert Ekka chowk was covered with posters, which appealed people to follow the right path and become united against elements that are a threat to communal peace.
City-based painter Dinesh Singh said, "There are two types of terrorism. One in which people come and do a bomb blast, kill people and leave. The second one is more dangerous. People stay, provoke the youth with their ideas and slowly destroy the place with their divide and rule policy. So I would request the youth to be alert and aware of their duties. Only then can we hope to save our city."
